A new study by the Episcopal Health Foundation finds that more than a third of Texans say they or someone in their household have gone without medical care during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. More than 90% said they skipped preventive care like checkups and mammograms.

“We understand the concerns COVID has brought,” said Charlene Flash, an infectious disease physician and CEO of Avenue 360. “But what’s more concerning over the long run is that patients are going without or delaying care. The risk to some is higher the longer they go without care. I don’t want Houston to wake up after the pandemic is over with more severe illnesses from unmanaged chronic disease, poor child health, and untreated depression.”
