Houston Infectious Disease Physician: Worst Thing You Can Do Is Minimize Concerns around COVID-19 Vaccine

On Houston Public Media’s “Houston Matters” program, Dr. Charlene Flash addressed skepticism in parts of the African American and Latino communities around receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine, which would help prevent illness from COVID-19, which has killed more than 350,000 Americans.
“The worst thing people can do is minimize the concern. It is really important to answer people’s questions, provide as much information as possible, and provide the transparency people need to make the decisions,” Dr. Flash, CEO of Avenue 360 and an infectious disease physician, said. “[People] just want to make sure that they are being treated fairly and have all the information they need to make a good decision.”
She is encouraged that there will likely be multiple vaccine candidates that are safe and effective in preventing the COVID-19 illness.
